Game Details

OutRunners, released by Sega in 1993, is an arcade racing game where players compete in a worldwide cross-country tournament. This installment in the Out Run series brought back the branching road paths and lighthearted atmosphere of the original. Players select from eight distinct cars, each with unique attributes, to race against either an AI opponent or another player in a perpetual split-screen mode. The game features enhanced visuals and audio compared to its predecessors, and a notable feature is the in-game radio station selection, offering both classic tunes and new songs. OutRunners was designed for head-to-head play, with the arcade version supporting up to eight players across linked cabinets. players drive exotic cars through diverse, branching courses across the globe. As the fourth game in the Out Run series, it brought back the popular fork-in-the-road mechanic, offering players choices between East and West routes that lead through various international locales like San Francisco, the Grand Canyon, and the Easter Islands. The game features eight selectable cars, each with unique handling and a distinct driver and passenger pair, who exhibit comical crash animations. A notable feature is the ability to change music mid-race from a selection that includes new tracks and remixes of original Out Run songs. The game was designed for head-to-head competition, allowing up to two players on a single cabinet, or up to eight players by linking multiple machines.
