Hit the Ice is an arcade ice hockey video game that features a cartoonish, no-holds-barred take on the sport. The game pits the Reds against the Blues in the fictional Video Hockey League, with the objective being to outscore the opponent over three periods. Unlike traditional hockey, each team has only three players: a forward, a defense, and a goalie. Players are encouraged to engage in aggressive tactics, including tripping, elbowing, and kicking opponents, with each character possessing unique checking moves. Fights can break out, and losing multiple fights in a period can lead to a player being injured and leaving the game. A distinctive power-up, the “power drink,” can be purchased for an additional credit, granting a player faster skating and harder shots for a limited time.
