Papa's Taco Mia is a restaurant management and cooking simulation game where players become assistant chefs in Papa Louie's new taco restaurant. The story begins with the player character, either Mitch or Maggie, winning a taco eating contest, with the grand prize being the responsibility of running Papa's Taco Mia. The game is set in Tacodale. Players must learn the secrets of choosing ingredients, using tools, and preparing Papa Louie's signature tacos.

A round of Papa's Taco Mia involves taking customer orders, cooking various meats, and assembling tacos with specific toppings and sauces. The game features three main stations: the Order Station for receiving customer requests, the Grill Station for cooking and preparing meats (flipping and chopping as needed), and the Build Station for assembling the tacos with shells, toppings, and sauces. Players must follow instructions carefully and observe cooking technology to complete orders quickly and efficiently. Satisfied customers will give tips, which are collected in a jar and contribute to the player's in-game money. As the game progresses, players encounter new customers with unique preferences and unlock new ingredients, including different meats, taco shells, toppings, and sauces, making orders more complex. The ultimate goal is to build a regular clientele and develop the restaurant business by earning higher ranks.

The money earned from tips and weekly paychecks can be used to purchase upgrades for the restaurant, such as cooking timers, door chimes, and decorations, which can improve efficiency and customer patience. The game also features "Closers," who are picky customers appearing at the end of each day, and a Food Critic named Jojo, who, if impressed, awards a Blue Ribbon leading to higher tips. Additionally, players can earn up to 60 badges for completing various achievements. Papa's Taco Mia is a single-player experience.
