Progear is a horizontally scrolling shoot-’em-up developed by Capcom in collaboration with Cave and released in arcades in 2001. Set in the steampunk-inspired Kingdom of Parts, the game takes place in a world where advanced machinery and aerial combat define everyday life.
Long ago, the elderly nobles of the kingdom discovered the secret of immortality. Five of them—known as the Motoruin Sages—used this power to overthrow the government and seize control of the nation, bringing destruction and oppression to the once peaceful land. As their ambitions to reshape the world grow ever more dangerous, a group of courageous young pilots rises to challenge them.
Flying aircraft powered by the revolutionary semi-automatic propulsion engine known as the Progear, the heroes wage a desperate aerial campaign against the Motoruin forces. Throughout their journey, they battle massive war machines, powerful airships, and the immortal sages themselves in an effort to restore peace and freedom to the Kingdom of Parts.
Renowned for its distinctive blend of Capcom’s artistic style and Cave’s signature bullet-hell gameplay, Progear features beautifully animated steampunk visuals, memorable mechanical designs, an innovative jewel-based scoring system, and intense, action-packed stages. It remains one of the most celebrated arcade shooters of its era and a favorite among fans of classic shoot-’em-ups.
