NES game Chip and Dale. While it borrows a few familiar elements—such as throwing crates at enemies and encountering several recognizable bosses—the similarities largely end there. The bosses rarely pose a real challenge, and the overall gameplay feels quite different from the original.
Throughout the game, players collect small diamonds that reward extra lives, and unlike the NES version, shooting mechanics are also included. However, the sound design and graphics fall short of the quality typically associated with games starring the famous chipmunks.
Despite its shortcomings, Squirrel King may still interest fans curious to experience a unique and lesser-known reinterpretation. The game also supports two-player mode over the internet (Netplay), adding some cooperative fun.
